Formed in the late 1980’s the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra has accomplished much in its 30+ year existence. In 1994 the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra played in Sydney; In 1997 the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra performed in the West Coast of the U.S.A over a fortnight and in 2000 the Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra was invited to perform at the prestigious Montreux Festival in Switzerland. As well it performed in Europe and England. We were also a headline act at the Big Band Blast in Port Macquarie 2014. The Orchestra consists of 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, 5 Saxes Piano, Bass, Drums and Vocals. The band was founded by its long time Musical Director, Calder Prescott MNZM, a NZ Jazz legend. After Calder’s death in 2020 we are now led by Nick Cornish. The Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra has performed in Invercargill, Queenstown, Alexandra, Oamaru and Christchurch as well as at many private and public functions in Dunedin.
